Rumyana Kostova is a Bulgarian soprano.
Some of the roles and theaters Rumyana guested in are Oriana (Handel's Amadigi di Gaula) at Sofia National Opera and Ballet, Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro) at Varna State Opera, Eurydice (Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice) at Festa dell’Opera Brescia, Yvette (Puccini's La Rondine) at Stara Zagora State Opera, Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem at Sofia Philharmonic. Rumyana has appeared regularly at some prestigious festivals such as "Sofia Baroque Arts Festival", “Festa dell’Opera” (Brescia) and “March Music Days” (Rousse).
A most recent highlight from her concert experience is her appearance as a soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah at the stage of Sofia Philharmonic, in Rossini's “Petite messe Solennelle” in concerts in Sofia and Plovdiv and in the concert “L’Idolo Orfeo” with Sofia Baroque Arts Festival Ensemble led by Zefira Valova celebrating the Early Music Day (REMA - Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne – European Early Music Network). Recently Rumyana was invited to record songs by the American composer Amy Beach at the Bulgarian National Radio with the celebrated pianist Margarita Ilieva.
Kostova obtained her bachelor diploma with honors from the Early Music Department at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague and second major in classical singing, praised for her ability to “command the attention while taking listeners on a journey of unforgettable beauty, desperation, excitement, and joy.' In the season 2021-2022 Rumyana took part in the Scuola dell’Opera del Teatro Comunale di Bologna where she studied with Luciana D’Intino. In August 2023, she successfully completed her postgraduate qualification at the Boris Christoff Academy in Rome.
Born in 1994 she showed remarkable talent for both singing and acting from a very young age. At only 5, Rumyana started studying Bulgarian folklore music and won numerous prizes at competitions throughout the years. She joined a mixed voice classical choir at the age of 10 and toured with them for several years around Europe. As a teeneger Rumyana enjoyed taking drama classes and appeared in numerous theater productions. She obtained her secondary school diploma at the National School of Music and Drama in Stara Zagora where she studied Classical Singing.
Rumyana studied classical singing under the guidance of Darina Takova. Amongst noted conductors, artists and professors she worked with are names like Rita Dams, Catrin Wyn-Davies, Francesca Aspromonte, Zefira Valova, Floris Visser, Michael Chance, to name a few. Rumyana’s artistic experience has been further enhanced by participating in the the masterclasses of Deda Cristina Colonna, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Raina Kabaivanska.
Besides singing at the operatic stage, Rumyana has taken part in two early music vocal ensembles: Dai Monti Verdi (Sofia) and Le Bizzarrie Poetiche (The Hague)
